Blog 8: Math and Gamification

Mathematics, we  have always had dreams about it. Generally it is found boring by the students, personally it was kind of boring but it was always an interesting subject for me. Frankly, there is a thing called gamification, beware it is not gaming, gamification is applying game concepts to non-game environments with the aim of education. We can apply these principles to mathematics too, and it is also found that gamified education increases students' performance level in mathematics (Jagust et al., 2018). Mathematics teachers should try to gamify their lessons, there are some ways to do it. (Khare, 2018) Rules, goals and objectives should be set when gamifying a subject, mathematical problems can be used to create those objectives; puzzles can be done about equations and other mathematical subjects. Badges can be given for achievements such as solving an equation, explaining a hard mathematical concept to other students, completing the homework successfully etc. You can find a detailed read in the following site, click here.
